It's Not Too Hard

James tells us that faith without works is dead. Have you ever tried to put works to your faith? Sometimes it seems so insurmountable. But when we look through the Scriptures, the directions the Lord gives us are always doable.

Moses was standing at the burning bush. God asked him, “What is that in your hand?” Moses said, “a rod.” God used that rod to turn into a snake, to turn the Nile River to blood, to part the Red Sea, to bring water from a rock, as well as just support Moses day by day as he walked through his life.

The prophet asked the widow woman, “What do you have in your house?” She could have said “dust bunnies” and the Lord would have worked with them. Instead, she said, “a little oil” and the prophet told her to gather vessels and to sell the oil. The Lord knew she was a businesswoman at heart or He would not have given her something to sell.

Jesus told the blind man, “go wash in the Pool of Siloam.” It was only about 70 yards downhill from the temple – not even a football field length. He didn’t tell him to go to Timbuktu or some other out of the way place. Just like Naaman was told to go to the Jordan River to wash seven times – a river he was going to cross anyway – not to the far-off rivers of his homeland. The distance was manageable.

“Stretch forth your hand.”

“Get up.”

“Take up your bed and walk.”

“Go show yourselves to the priests.”

“Listen for the sound.”

The directions given were always achievable. The only difficult part was trying to put them into action because that required faith.

Today is the same. We pray for healing, we need to do something we couldn’t do before. We pray for provision, we need to be watching for the next thing that is placed before us that makes income. We pray for increased territories, we need to be willing to go to new places. God will never tell us to do something that is not within our ability. It may not seem like it, but it may just be a little step into the big picture.

God’s plans are bigger than we are able to do on our own, but He gives it to us in bite-size pieces that we can achieve. If He’s told you that you were going to speak on big platforms – be faithful teaching your Bible Study class. If He’s told you to write books – be faithful writing that social media blog. If He’s told you that you were going to have your own family – honor the family you are in. Be faithful in the little things and one day you will look back and see the huge miracle that has happened in your life.

It’s not too hard when you do only what the Lord has told you to do for that moment. Take care of today and tomorrow will take care of itself. It’s not too hard.
