There is something remarkable about the way God designed a mother to nourish her baby.
A nursing mother does not simply produce the same milk for every baby in every circumstance. Research has shown that breast milk is a dynamic source of nourishment, changing over time and responding to the needs of the growing infant. Its composition can vary as a baby develops, and milk contains nutrients, antibodies, hormones, and other components that support the baby’s growth and immune system.
In other words, God designed a mother’s nourishment to meet the needs of the particular child she is caring for.
And perhaps there is something for us to learn about our heavenly Father in that. We sometimes imagine that God cares for us with a one-size-fits-all approach—as though He has one answer, one lesson, or one kind of provision that He gives to everyone. But Scripture paints a very different picture.
God knows us individually.
He knows what we need before we ask. He knows where we are weak and where we are growing. He knows when we need correction and when we need comfort, when we need to be strengthened and when we need to be still.
Jesus said: “your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” — Matthew 6:8 AMPC
Think about that.
Before you ask, He already knows.
You are not a number in a crowd to God. You are not interchangeable with someone else. You are not a “cookie-cutter” Christian who receives exactly the same treatment, timing, or path as everyone around you.
God knows you.
He knows the experiences that shaped you. He knows the burdens you carry. He knows the places where you need to mature. He knows the wounds that need His tenderness and the areas where you need His strength. He knows what you need for today—and He knows what you will need for tomorrow.
That doesn't mean He gives us everything we want. A loving parent does not confuse a child's wants with what is truly good for them.
Sometimes God's nourishment comes in the form of comfort. Sometimes it comes through His Word. Sometimes it is an unexpected provision. Sometimes it is a difficult season that produces endurance. Sometimes it is a closed door that protects us from something we cannot yet see. And sometimes it is simply His presence, reminding us that we are not alone.
Jesus gave His disciples a beautiful picture of the Father's attention to His creation: “Are not two little sparrows sold for a penny? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s leave (consent) and notice.” — Matthew 10:29 AMPC
Then He makes the comparison personal: “Fear not, then; you are of more value than many sparrows.” — Matthew 10:31 AMPC
If the Father sees the sparrow, He certainly sees you.
If He cares about something as small and seemingly insignificant as a bird, how much more does He care for the people He created in His own image?
You may look at someone else's life and wonder why God seems to be giving them something different. Their journey may look easier. Their calling may look different. Their blessings may come in ways you wish yours would.
But you don't need the nourishment God is giving someone else.
You need what your Father knows you need.
The mother does not feed one baby based on what another baby requires. She responds to the child in front of her.
And our Father knows the child in front of Him.
That's you.
He knows you completely, loves you personally, and cares for you faithfully. So today, you don't have to wonder whether God sees you.
He does.
You don't have to wonder whether He knows what you need.
He does.
And you don't have to become someone else to receive His care.
You are His child. He knows your needs. And He is faithful to nourish you for the journey He has called you to walk.
“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” — 1 Peter 5:7 AMPC |
