Colossians 3:8–13 | Isaiah 61:1-6 Spring reveals what winter concealed. What looked dead begins to breathe again. What lay dormant pushes its way toward life. As creation changes its clothes, God invites us to do the same.
In Colossians 3:8-13, we are instructed to put off the old nature and put on the new—renewed in the image of Christ. This is not just behavior modification; it is spiritual transformation. Isaiah echoes this same truth prophetically: To console those who mourn in Zion To give them beauty for ashes The oil of joy for mourning The Garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Isaiah 61:3)
God is not only removing what no longer belongs, He is replacing it with something greater.
What Are You Wearing Today? Every day, we choose what we put on, both physically and spiritually. Think of Mr. Rogers, who intentionally took off his coat and shoes and put on something new at the beginning of every episode. That simple act became a picture of daily renewal. In the same way, Scripture calls us to lay aside the old and intentionally clothe ourselves with Christ.
Paul reminds us: "Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering" (Colossians 3:12)
Isaiah reinforces this: He has clothed me with the garments of salvation. He has covered me with the robe of righteousness. (Isaiah 61:10)
What are you wearing as you step into this season?
Spring Cleaning the Soul Winter storms leave debris behind - branches, trash, things that don’t belong. After the wind passes, there’s cleanup to do. Life’s storms can leave similar clutter in our hearts—anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, old wounds. Spring is an invitation from God to clean house.
Create in me a clean heart, oh God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalms 51:10)
What debris has blown into your life that needs to be removed?
Dormant Does Not Mean Dead Some trees bloom early. Others take time. Some remain green through winter; others appear barren long after spring begins. Dormant does not mean dead. Unanswered prayers can feel forgotten, but they are often waiting beneath the surface. God’s Word reminds us:
For the Vision is yet for an appointed time, though it tarries, wait for it. (Habakkuk 2:3)
Water those prayers with faith. Speak life over them. Trust God’s timing.
The Seeds We Speak As children, many of us picked dandelions and blew their seeds into the wind, watching them scatter. God’s Word is also seed-but it never returns empty.
So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me void. (Isaiah 55:11)
When we speak God’s promises, we plant living seeds-into our lives and into others.
Those who, sow in tears shall reap in joy. (Psalms 126:5)
Grounded on the Rock Sometimes renewal begins with grounding. Standing barefoot on the earth reminds us of our foundation.
For no other foundation, can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Jesus Christ 1Corinthians 3:11
When life feels unsettled, we return to the Rock.
From Cocoon to New Life Transformation takes time. A butterfly does not rush the cocoon. Change happens in the hidden place before it is revealed.
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. All things have passed away, behold all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:170
If you feel in between-take heart. God is still working.
The Fragrance We Carry Paul tells us we are not only clothed differently-we smell different.
Now, thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
Isaiah declares that we are:
Trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified. (Isaiah 61:3)
So as we spring forward, ask yourself: · What old garments need to come off? · What new life is God calling me to put on? · What fragrance am I leaving behind?
It’s a new season. Take off the old. Put on the new. And walk in the life God has already prepared.
“Lord, we thank You for new seasons and fresh starts. Help us to take off everything that no longer reflects You and to put on the mind of Christ. Where we feel barren, bring life. Where we feel heavy, clothe us with praise. Let us carry the fragrance of Your love into every place we go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” |
