Anointed Wives AND Anointed Husbands

By Debbie Trail

In this season, we often hear about the women arising.  We call forth the Esthers, Hannahs, Lydias, and Deborahs.  But we neglect to call forth the husbands of these anointed women.  The woman will never be able to achieve the fullness of her calling unless her husband steps into his calling as the covering, protector and supporter.  Adam was created in the image and likeness of God.  Whole.  Entire.  However, he needed a helpmate and God split Adam and fashioned Eve. Adam was no longer self-sufficient.  He needed Eve.  On the other hand, Eve also needed Adam.  Paul states that some are given the grace to live single lives, but for the greater majority that marry, each needs to esteem the other as the part that makes up their whole.  Not someone who is exactly like them, but someone who compensates for their weaknesses and who allows them to walk in their strengths.    Deborah was a prophetess and judge of Israel (Judges 4).  The Scripture also states she was the wife of Lappidoth.  Deborah would never have been able to sit under the palm tree of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel unless her husband supported her and freed her from her household responsibilities.  Lappidoth means to shine like a torch.  He was not hidden because his wife was anointed by God.  In actuality, he was elevated - Lappidoth's name would never have been mentioned in the Bible for all the ages if he had not been anointed to cover, protect and support Deborah and he fulfilled his position well.  Ruth had her Boaz. Sarah had her Abraham. Jochebed had her Amram. Elizabeth had her Zacharias. Mary had her Joseph.  Hannah was the wife of Elkanah (I Samuel 1).  Although Elkanah was an attentive, caring husband, Hannah desperately wanted children.  One day she was weeping bitterly as she prayed in the tabernacle of the Lord.  She vowed to God that if He would give her a son, she would give him back to the work of the Lord.  This would be the ultimate sacrifice because, not only would she have to give up the child she wanted so badly, but she would have to hand him over to the priests who, at that time, were not the kind of men she would want to raise her child.  The Lord heard her vow.  Elkanah, even without understanding everything, took her home and acted on her faith by knowing her intimately.  Hannah gave birth to Samuel.  Elkanah told Hannah to keep Samuel until he was weaned, then they would go and fulfill her vow.  In keeping Hannah accountable to her vows, Elkanah was a covering and support to his wife and they were blessed with five additional children.  Although Elkanah may not have always understood Hannah's passion for children and she may have thought him insensitive at times, they honored each other.  Through their mutual respect and support, they were both blessed and their son became the prophet who anointed kings of Israel and whose words never fell to the ground.  God created marriage to perfectly represent His Kingdom.  In a godly marriage, we give love to receive love; we esteem the other above ourselves to be honored; we serve the other so we can be served; and we lay down our own ambitions and desires so that our lives are fulfilled and complete in our spouses.  In God's Kingdom, when we learn and work together with each other's giftings, anointings and callings, walking in love, and esteeming each other, the Church perfectly represents the glory of God to the world.  When we become one with Christ, the world sees the Father's love.  When we become one with our spouse, the world sees God's plan for the Church.  Not only do we call forth the Ruths, Sarahs, Rachels and Rebekkahs, but we call for the godly men.  Men strong in their faith and convictions.  Men who are confident in their own callings and anointings.  Men who are so firmly planted on their own foundation of relationship with God that their wives can build their homes and anointings on solid, unmoveable, unshakeable ground.  The home is only as strong as its foundation, but a foundation without anything on it is only a slab of concrete.  We call for the complete Adam - male and female - in the image and likeness of God to fulfill all that God has planned and purposed.
